Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has decided to postpone party president Sukhbir Singh Badal’s ‘Punjab Bachao Yatra’. The decision followed a meeting of its constituency in charges to chalk out a strategy for the 2027 Punjab polls and gather feedback for the party manifesto. The meeting was chaired by Sukhbir Badal. The campaign, earlier scheduled to start on Nov 10, will now commence on Nov 15.SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema told the media here that the decision to postpone the yatra was taken due to the festival season and the fact that farmers were busy in mandis. He said the yatra would start after paying obeisance at Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo on Nov 15. From Nov 15 to 22, the yatra will pass through 14 assembly constituencies, covering two constituencies every day.“The party president will share his vision with the people, the damage caused to the state under the present govt, and how to save Punjab,” he added.Cheema further said the SAD president would also meet traders and industrialists across 12 constituencies, starting Thursday from Sangrur and Barnala.Cheema also said that a party delegation would meet the Punjab Human Rights Commission and appeal for action against police personnel who had forcibly taken the mortal remains of Daljit Singh from his family at Mansa. He added, “The fact that the aggrieved family was also beaten up in this process will also be taken up with the Commission.”“Other cases of police high-handedness will also be taken up with the Commission,” Cheema said.No impact (BOX)Emphasising that Punjab was with Punjabis, Sukhbir Badal, while responding to a media query on Congress functionary Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming Punjab visit on Nov 4, said, “Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Punjab will not affect Punjabis in any way, as they have decided to support their own regional party which alone can rise to their expectations and aspirations.”Answering a media query on alliance possibility between the SAD and the BJP, Badal said, “I said it before also. Except Congress and AAP, we are ready to ally with any political party which accepts our ideologies and policies. Whenever any alliance proposal comes, we will consider the same.”
