Mansa: The CBI team investigating the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota appears to be widening its probe beyond the Oct 13 killing, inspecting three pharmacies in Mansa on Saturday for suspected sale of habit-forming drugs.A CBI source said Jhota had raised his voice against these three pharmacies, and the agency is trying to assess the scale of the sale of habit-forming drugs in the town. One of these pharmacies was sealed by Punjab Food and Drug Administration in the crackdown following Jhota’s murder. CBI officials broke the seal to enter the shop. A pharmacy in Veer Nagar was searched for the second time in three days. The third pharmacy checked is near Mansa bus stand. The agency had earlier inspected the demolished shop of Jhota murder accused Ashwani Kumar, and checked its measurements.Family Demands SSP TransferJhota’s father, Bhim Singh, said the suspension of Mansa DSP, SHO and drug inspector was not enough and demanded action against the district’s SSP as well. He said the SSP should not be allowed to attend the meeting between the govt-appointed panel and the committee spearheading protests over Jhota’s killing. Bhim Singh said he and Jhota’s wife, Manpreet Kaur, would stay away if the SSP participated. He also demanded the SSP’s transfer out of Mansa.
