Ahmedabad: Dealers are leveraging a new-found channel to move drugs in the city — delivery apps. On Sunday night, a suspected mephedrone consignment was to make its way from Hansol to Gota with a rider booked through a popular delivery app. The sender had packed and concealed the MD in an AirPods box. It was the deliveryman that led Naroda police to the person who had booked the drug delivery. Police were yet to declare the quantity seized and its value.Naroda police inspector B M Katariya said, “The accused, Priyang Sanghvi, a resident of Sabarmati, had allegedly ordered the drug through the delivery app. The consignment was packed near Kothari Hospital in Hansol, and its delivery was booked for Gota. The supplier is yet to be arrested.”After picking up and opening the parcel, the deliveryman grew suspicious about its content and informed police. Based on his information, police picked up Sanghvi from Naroda and seized the suspected contraband which was concealed in a plastic zipper pouch inside an AirPods box. Police are determining the nature of the seized material.Multiple OTPs and a businessman’s suspicionFor nearly a week, a businessman in Hathijan kept receiving OTPs from a delivery app. Yet another message with an OTP on Sunday night made him suspicious. He decided to call on the deliveryman’s number that sually appears with the OTP when a parcel is booked. The call made the deliveryman, who had already picked up the parcel, open it. Suspecting it to be drugs, he immediately informed cops. Investigators suspect that to avoid detection, Sanghvi booked deliveries using other people’s mobile numbers while keeping the delivery location accurate. The delivery man and the businessman have been named as witnesses in the case, said officers.
