Bengaluru: A stray puppy was run over twice allegedly by a garbage collection vehicle despite repeated warnings from onlookers in Konadasapura village near Virgonagar in east Bengaluru. This triggered outrage among residents who suspect the incident may not have been accidental.According to a complaint filed by a 35-year-old resident, the incident occurred at 7.44am on Oct 16. The puppy was sitting by the roadside when a mini-garbage collection vehicle allegedly struck it and ran over it.She alleged the driver neither honked before the impact nor appeared to make any attempt to avoid the puppy. Despite having an opportunity to stop after the initial impact, the driver drove over the puppy again, killing it, the complaint said.Residents who witnessed the incident shouted repeatedly at the driver to stop after noticing the puppy trapped beneath the vehicle. However, the driver is said to have ignored their warnings.Questioning whether the incident was merely an accident, she sought an impartial investigation and appropriate legal action against the driver. The resident referred to a similar incident reported by locals about a month earlier on another road, in which a puppy died due to a driver’s negligence. She urged police to examine the earlier incident as well.Avalahally police registered a case against the driver under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and BNS Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming an animal).
