Jaipur: A doctor’s attempt to apply for a medical officer’s post in Rajasthan has hit a legal roadblock after Rajasthan High Court refused to grant relief over a mismatch between his changed name and his educational and registration records. The petitioner, whose academic documents record his name as “Jai Shri Ram,” told the court that he had changed his name to “Jai Gurjar” after completing his MBBS degree. His counsel submitted that the name change had been notified in Rajasthan Gazette on June 4, 2026, and that applications had been moved before Rajasthan University of Health Sciences and Rajasthan Medical Council for correction of his name.A single bench of Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand Monday dismissed the petition in which the doctor had sought directions to the health department and Rajasthan Medical Council to allow him to submit and process his application for the Medical Officer Direct Recruitment Examination, 2026, under his current name, “Jai Gurjar.”He approached HC apprehending that his application for the medical officer post would be rejected if his name was not corrected in the RMC records before the recruitment process. The state opposed the plea, arguing that the petitioner had secured admission to the MBBS course based on educational documents bearing the name “Jai Shri Ram.”“He has changed his name in Aadhaar card, voter card, and PAN card as Jai Gurjar, but in the state medical council records and in his MBBS and other educational qualifications, it is still Jai Shri Ram. We argued in the court that until his name is changed in educational qualifications, his name cannot be changed in RMC records,” Bhupendra Pareek, counsel for Rajasthan Medical Council, said.Accepting the objection, the court held that the relief sought by the petitioner could not be granted until his name was corrected in the relevant school and college documents. The court disposed of the petition while granting liberty to the petitioner to approach the authorities again for necessary corrections. It said that if Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education and RUHS rectify his name in the relevant records, the corrected documents may be submitted to the concerned authorities for further action.
