Mangaluru: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded the suspension of an ACP over alleged police high-handedness against students during a protest outside St Agnes College on Oct 12. The student organisation also sought strict legal action against police personnel accused of manhandling female students, warning of intensified protests if the authorities failed to act.The protest was triggered by the college administration’s decision to schedule semester examinations during Dasara. According to ABVP, police personnel used excessive force to disperse the protesters. Several ABVP activists who had arrived to support the students were allegedly detained during the incident.Addressing the media on Wednesday, ABVP Mangaluru division convener Suvith Shetty condemned police action and said it was unacceptable in a democracy. “The ACP who assaulted a protester must be suspended immediately and swift action must be taken against police officers who behaved inhumanely with female students,” he demanded.
