Bengaluru: Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS) Wednesday announced the introduction of a short-term warehousing solution for cargo bound in and out of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The solution is aimed at helping freight forwarders and shippers with urgent temporary storage during high-demand situations. Both general and temperature-controlled cargo that might need cold storage facilities can utilise these warehouses on a rental basis with periods starting from just one day with no long-term lease requirements. The facility will be available at the BLR logistics park located near KIA. AISATS was selected by Bangalore International Airport Ltd to design, build and operate the 8.1-acre greenfield logistics park. It started functioning in April and has already reached 75% occupancy and is expected to reach 90% occupancy by the end of the financial year.Overall, the park has a 1.4 lakh sqft general warehouse on the ground floor and 1.1 lakh sqft on the first floor. For short-term cargo, the facility houses a 25-tonne cargo storage capacity with an area of 2,000 sqft, eliminating the need for long-term warehouse rental commitments. The solution, AISATS says, is relevant during peak cargo periods such as Diwali, Christmas and New Year, as well as for project cargo and oversized or specialised consignments. Recently, its solution was used to store odd-sized medical equipment that required special care, and special chemicals and pharmaceutical ingredients at its common-user cold storage facility.
