Surat: A nuclear reactor enclosure for Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant Units 5 and 6 was flagged off from L&T’s Hazira facility on Saturday, marking a key step in India’s nuclear energy programme and highlighting Gujarat’s growing role in advanced engineering. The reactor enclosure was dispatched from L&T’s AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex at Hazira by deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi, for the Kaiga project in Karnataka. Sanghavi also inaugurated the robotics heavy fabrication station at the plant, aimed at strengthening high-end manufacturing capabilities. Addressing the gathering, Sanghavi said, “Gujarat has emerged as a major hub in supporting India’s nuclear power capabilities.” He said the manufacturing of critical reactor components at Hazira was a matter of pride for the state and reflected engineering excellence as well as the success of the “Make in India” initiative. Sanghavi said Gujarat’s capabilities in advanced engineering and the nuclear energy sector were now gaining global recognition. From innovation to execution, he added, the state plays a leading role in India’s development journey. During the visit, Sanghavi planted a tree on the campus, underlining the importance of environmental conservation alongside industrial growth. The reactor enclosure manufactured at L&T Hazira is a complex structure built to meet stringent safety standards for nuclear installations. Its dispatch highlights the capacity of Indian industry to produce precision equipment for strategic infrastructure projects in the country and is another boost to India’s push for self-reliance in critical energy infrastructure.
