Dhubri administration plans strict noise checks during Durga Puja | Guwahati News

Dhubri: The Dhubri district administration is preparing guidelines for Durga Puja committees and organisers, with strict monitoring planned to curb the use of loud DJ music at pandals and during idol immersion on Dashami.Senior superintendent of police Debasish Bora told TOI that a list of dos and don’ts would be issued ahead of the festivities and compliance would be monitored. “Under no circumstances will DJs be allowed to play above the permissible noise limit,” Bora said.He added that excessive noise poses serious health risks and could be particularly distressing for people with pacemakers and those who had undergone bypass surgery. The administration’s move comes as Durga Puja preparations gather pace across the district following Mahalaya. The Dhubri Town Club organised its 26th annual religious and cultural procession in the early hours, with chants of Chandipath and thousands of people following the tableau.Around 100 puja committees are expected to organise celebrations in Dhubri town, while the total number of pujas across the district is likely to exceed 500.Several committees are planning thematic pandals, decorative installations, artistic lighting and cultural programmes, with some preparing to mark significant jubilees.“We want to make this year’s celebration memorable while maintaining the traditional spirit of Durga Puja. The theme and decorations have been planned to provide visitors a distinctive experience,” said Simul Sarkar, secretary of Dhubri Community Puja committee.“We are celebrating the Puja not merely as a religious festival but also as an occasion that brings people together. Our motto is to convey a social and cultural message while adhering to the guidelines and restrictions,” said Prosenjit Dutta, president of Dhubri Puja Coordination Committee.Community puja organisers have urged the administration to focus on security, crowd management, traffic regulation, sanitation, uninterrupted power supply and noise control.
