Guwahati: Subhash Nagar Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee will mark its 52nd year with “Nabanna Utsav” as the central theme, celebrating the lives, labour and contribution of farmers and the joy of harvest.

“Through this theme, we aim to connect the essence of the festival with our community and bring its rich cultural heritage to life. By incorporating a dome into our celebrations, we hope to create a grand festive atmosphere that reflects the joy of harvest, the spirit of togetherness, and the deep-rooted traditions of our agrarian culture,” said Deepjyoti Dey, general secretary of the puja committee.Construction of the 35-foot pandal began around one-and-a-half months ago and is expected to be completed before or on Sasthi, the sixth day of Durga Puja. The estimated budget is Rs 12–13 lakh.Artists from West Bengal and local artisans are working together on the structure. The idol to be installed at the pandal on Sunday has been crafted by an artisan from Bishnupur.The committee is also seeking greater community participation to expand the scale of the celebrations and make the festival bigger in the coming years.Adequate security arrangements have been made for the smooth and safe conduct of the festival.“Every year, we make sure to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued by the govt. We strictly adhere to the basic protocols laid down by the authorities to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the festival,” he also said.Cultural programmes featuring music, dance and other performances have been scheduled on the evenings of Durga Puja for visitors.
