South West Ahmedabad Sports Arena to get 36m-wide, 7km link

Ahmedabad: With the city set to host Commonwealth Games in 2030, Auda has approved direct road connectivity to the South West Ahmedabad Sports Arena (SWASA), which is integral to Ahmedabad’s sports infrastructure.Auda on Tuesday greenlit a new 36-metre-wide and 7-km-long road to connect SWASA to SP Ring Road.Auda also approved the plan to rezone over 5 lakh square metres of land within a 200-metre boundary on both sides of the proposed road from a General Agricultural Zone to a Residential Zone (Residential Zone-2).Explaining the proposal submitted to the board, an Auda official stated, “The authority had previously proposed a 90-metre-wide road in TP Scheme No. 429 of Manipur-Godhavi under the development plan.”This road passes through the General Agricultural Zone (A1) of Godhavi, the official said.“Currently, implementation work has been done for the portion of this 90-metre-wide road passing through TP Scheme No. 429, specifically opening the stretch from VIP Road to the railway line,” the official added. “Apart from this, there is currently no road connectivity to TP Scheme No. 457 in Godhavi. There is also no direct connectivity from the SP Ring Road.”The official said that to reach SWASA from SP Ring Road, vehicles must currently travel via Bopal-Ghuma Road toward Manipur using a railway underpass less than 7 metres wide, and then take Manipur village road.Waterlogging in the underpass during monsoon disrupts traffic. Currently, this route from SP Ring Road covers approximately 10km and takes about 30 minutes to travel, the official said.Another Auda official said, “A 36-metre-wide road was proposed in the development plan connecting SP Ring Road to Shilaj, Bopal, Manipur, and Godhavi among other places.”The official said the road runs about 7km from SP Ring Road westward to the canal area. A section of the road passes through Manipur village.Auda has selected approximately 15 lakh square metres of land in Godhavi for SWASA for the Commonwealth Games. The land allotment factors in the possibility of hosting the Olympics. All of this land is privately owned, and sports infrastructure has been planned on the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model.BoxNew network to link SP Ring Rd to Police AcademyAhmedabad: With Ahmedabad set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, the main sports venue will be Sardar Patel Sports Enclave surrounding Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, for which land has already been cleared.
