Lucknow: A 23-year-old man wanted in the murder of RSS functionary Rameshwar Tiwari was injured in a police encounter and arrested in Deoria district, police said.The accused, Deepak Tiwari, a resident of Bhikham Chhapra village under Lar police station limits, sustained a bullet injury in his left leg during an exchange of fire near Sutawar turn.Police said a team conducting vehicle checks spotted Deepak and signalled him to stop, but he allegedly tried to flee. When personnel chased him, he is accused of firing at the police with a country-made pistol. The police retaliated, and he was hit in the leg before being taken into custody, officers said.Deepak was taken to Deoria Medical College for treatment, where he remains admitted.Rameshwar Tiwari (50) served as RSS’s Samrasta Pramukh and was killed on Oct 1. Police said the murder followed a dispute linked to the construction of a speed breaker.An FIR was registered naming Deepak Tiwari along with 10 unidentified persons. Police said they recovered a country-made pistol and cartridges from his possession.Deoria superintendent of police Abhijit R. Shankar confirmed the arrest and said questioning and legal proceedings are underway.
