Loan promise turns sour, man alleges house used to raise ₹12.5L loan

Rajkot: A 31-year-old man has accused five people of allegedly taking control of his house on the pretext of arranging a loan and later raising a Rs 12.5 lakh loan against the same property.Chandreshkumar Jadav of Junagadh’s Vanthali Road area lodged a complaint at Junagadh City C Division police station against Brijesh Yadav, Hamir Ranavaya, Yunus Sumra, Karan Haran and a man identified as Ravi under BNS and provisions of Gujarat Money Lenders Act.According to the complaint, Jadav and his brother jointly owned a house in Somnath Township. In June 2025, Jadav had borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh against the property to meet his father’s medical expenses and other needs. He later contacted Brijesh after seeing an Instagram post about loan services.Brijesh allegedly assured him that the existing loan would be cleared and a fresh Rs 5 lakh loan would be arranged from Hamir at 5% interest. Jadav was allegedly told to temporarily transfer the house deed to Hamir’s name for four months. In March, money was deposited into Jadav’s account in instalments, while his earlier loan of over Rs 2.5 lakh was cleared. On March 30, he and his brother allegedly transferred the house deed to Hamir at the Junagadh Mamlatdar office.Jadav alleged that about a month later, the property was transferred from Hamir to Brijesh, following which a Rs. 12.5 lakh loan was raised against it. He claimed Rs 9 lakh from the loan was given to Hamir through a cheque, while Brijesh retained a substantial portion of the remaining amount. When Jadav questioned him, Brijesh allegedly said he had returned Rs 6 lakh to Hamir and would pay the remaining loan instalments. After initially paying a few instalments, he allegedly stopped. The complaint further alleged that Brijesh later pressured Jadav to sign a rental agreement for the house. After Jadav refused and locked the premises, Brijesh and Ravi allegedly stopped him in Vanthali, abused and assaulted him and threatened him over signing documents.Police have initiated proceedings and are examining the property documents, bank transactions, loan records and other financial dealings cited in the complaint.
