Rajkot: The anti-narcotics wing of Rajkot city police arrested a 28-year-old man with 46.9g of mephedrone (MD) allegedly intended for illegal sale.The accused, Arjun alias Anmol Kothivar, was apprehended on Oct 3 following a tip-off that a man carrying MD would arrive on a dirt road opposite Meldi Mata Temple, near the new court building on Jamnagar Road.Anti-narcotics wing police inspector B B Jadeja said the operation was carried out as part of efforts to curb the illegal sale, purchase and consumption of narcotic substances and prevent drug abuse among youngsters.Acting on the information, a police team kept watch at the spot and detained Kothivar when he arrived. During a search, police recovered 46.9g of mephedrone, valued at around Rs 1.4 lakh.The seizure also included a mobile phone, a scooter valued at around Rs 40,000, Rs 700 in cash and an Aadhaar card. The total value of the seized property was estimated at Rs 2.31 lakh.A case has been registered at Rajkot University police station under Sections 8(C) and 21(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.Police said Kothivar was previously booked at Malaviya Nagar police station under same NDPS Act provisions. Investigators are examining his criminal background and suspected links with other persons involved in the drug trade.
