HISAR: Allegations of illegal detention have surfaced following the arrest of Promila, wife of an accused in the Jeewan Kundu murder case, with her lawyer telling the court that she and her mother-in-law were allegedly picked up from their home on August 4 but produced before a court only on the evening of August 6.The court, terming the allegations a matter of serious concern, has directed the police to preserve relevant electronic evidence and submit CCTV footage in sealed covers.According to advocate Praveer Arya, Promila told the court that she and her mother-in-law, Indra Devi, were taken from their home around 1pm on August 4. She alleged that they were taken to the HTM police station and CIA-1 before she was later shifted to the women’s police station. The court noted that the women’s police station had 14 CCTV cameras, but footage from only two main cameras had initially been produced. It directed the police to submit available footage from all 14 cameras by October 10 and ensure that the original data was not deleted, overwritten or altered. The court also sought an explanation regarding a non-functional camera at the CIA staff office and directed HTM police to submit available CCTV footage, pending DDR entries and reports concerning cameras along the relevant route. The murder case relates to the August 4 killing of Suryanagar resident Jeewan Kundu, who was allegedly assaulted by 10-12 people.
