Hyderabad: Two more Siberian Huskies have been traced, a day after a shocking abandonment incident took place near Patancheru, where dozens of the breed were allegedly dumped in a remote area earlier this month.“The ones that we have traced now were taken in by the passers-by, who happen to be animal lovers. With this, the number of rescued dogs has risen to seven, while one was found dead due to extreme heat conditions,” said Harsh Kishor B from SWAN NGO.Volunteers from SWAN NGO and AASRA NGO, who have been leading the rescue efforts, intensified their search operations on Thursday after fresh inputs from villagers. According to the rescuers, locals had spotted four to five dogs roaming in the vicinity on Wednesday evening, prompting immediate action. A coordinated search operation involving volunteers and the police was launched the following morning. The incident dates back to the night of April 20, when residents of Nandigaon village near Patancheru reported seeing a truck offload approximately 30 to 35 Siberian Huskies before speeding away. The sudden abandonment in a sparsely populated area triggered concern among locals, who later alerted animal welfare groups.Harsh added that all rescued dogs are currently under treatment and showing signs of recovery. The condition of the animals at the time of rescue raised serious concerns, with many found weak, dehydrated and distressed. Volunteers noted that Siberian Huskies, a breed adapted to colder climates, are particularly vulnerable to high temperatures, making their abandonment in such conditions especially alarming.Rescuers remain hopeful that more dogs may still be alive in the surrounding scrublands. “We are continuing our search and are optimistic about finding the remaining dogs soon so they can receive urgent care,” Harsh added.Meanwhile, police officials from the BDL Bhanur police station stated that efforts are ongoing to trace the vehicle involved in the incident. However, the lack of CCTV surveillance in the remote area has made the investigation challenging. “We are speaking to locals and trying to gather leads about the truck and its origin,” an official said.Blood test results of the rescued Huskies are currently awaited, as volunteers continue to monitor their recovery closely.
