New Delhi: Delhi will get seven more fire stations to improve geographical coverage, better response timing and ensure wider access to emergency services. Govt has cleared the allotment of land to Delhi Fire Service (DFS) for the new stations in Outer North and South West districts. Delhi currently has 71 fire stations.Delhi govt has allotted the plots on a 99-year, rent-free lease. The land in South West Delhi has been identified across six villages — Galibpur, Jhatikra, Badusarai, Dhansa, Ghuman Hera and Mundhela Kalan. In Outer North, vacant land has been allotted in Nizampur Rashidpur. The fire department has 67 regular stations and four daytime stations. A fire risk study, commissioned by Union home ministry in 2011, had identified major gaps in manpower and other aspects of fire services in Delhi. “Studies and assessments carried out in the past highlighted the need to increase the number of fire stations to ensure wider geographical coverage and quicker emergency response,” said an official.Govt data shows that DFS received 36,877 emergency calls in 2025-26, the highest in the past six years, with fire-related incidents accounting for 55.2% of them. The rising volume of emergencies is putting pressure on the department’s already stretched manpower and vehicle fleet, highlighting the need for strengthening its resources, said sources. The allotment order makes it clear that the land cannot be put to any use other than setting up fire stations. “All the seven stations will have permanent structures. Their size and how many fire tenders and manpower each of them will accommodate will be decided when the plans are drawn up in due course,” said the official, adding that the city will get more fire stations.
