Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Congress on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Registrar of Cooperative Societies seeking immediate action over the expiry of terms of governing bodies of several cooperative banks and alleged non-compliance with regulatory norms.Led by Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Chavda and leader of the Congress legislature party Tushar Chaudhary, the delegation demanded elections in Gujarat State Cooperative Bank (GSC) and around 12 district central cooperative banks (DCCBs), including those in Ahmedabad, where terms have expired. It also sought appointment of administrators wherever legally required until fresh polls are held.The party also sought time-bound registration of milk cooperatives and greater transparency in bonus payments to dairy farmers.Chavda alleged that the structure of cooperative institutions in the state has been weakened during the BJP rule and a number of instances of corruption have emerged in these institutions in the past.
