Silchar: Raising the stakes in the Oct 3 Silchar Municipal Corporation polls, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced a Rs 1-crore special fund for wards of every BJP candidate elected to the 42-member civic body and promised a separate annual allocation for the corporation if the party wins control.“The special fund of Rs 1 crore for each winning candidate will be released within Dec. The govt will also provide a separate annual fund to the corporation if BJP wins the election,” Sarma said.At a campaign rally, Sarma said the special funds would be released by December. With two BJP candidates elected unopposed, he appealed to voters to support its nominees in the remaining 40 wards.Referring to the BJP’s “Sankalp Patra”, Sarma promised action on civic problems, including waterlogging and poor road connectivity, and said he would monitor the corporation’s functioning.He also outlined proposed infrastructure projects for Barak Valley, including an expressway, rail link and greenfield airport.Earlier, Sarma reviewed development projects and public grievances at the Assam Secretariat’s Barak Valley office in Srikona. He said he would return after Durga Puja for a review and promised that Silchar’s roads would be restored within a year.
