Vishu feast turns pricier in Bengaluru as LPG crisis troubles restaurants

Bengaluru: With Vishu set to be celebrated Wednesday, Kerala restaurants in Bengaluru are witnessing steady demand for the traditional sadhya. However, the ongoing LPG price surge has forced eateries to rethink their offerings, leading to marginal price hikes, trimmed menus, and limited availability, even as they strive to keep the festive spirit alive for customers.A staff member from a restaurant in HSR Layout Sector 1, said: “We have increased our prices by Rs 50 per sadhya because of the LPG crisis. We don’t want to burden our customers too much and have kept the hike minimal. Our sadhya is usually priced at around Rs 799; now we have increased it to Rs 850.”A manager at N’Chief, which has three branches across the city, said: “We haven’t increased our prices, but we’re offering the sadhya only at two branches due to the rise in LPG prices and scarcity of cylinders. We haven’t seen any drop in bookings — it remains the same.”Mohit, owner of Kottayam The Restaurant in HSR Layout Sector 4, said: “Due to the LPG issue, we have decided to reduce two to three items from the menu, including a curry and a pickle. At the same time, we don’t want to burden our customers, so we’re planning to reduce the price by at least Rs 100. We plan to price each serving at Rs 700.”While some restaurants are pricing sadhya between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 on food delivery platforms, others have not increased rates. A few eateries are also limiting service to specific time slots for a few hours.
