Thane: As many as 150 families staying in Bandal Chawl adjoining Central Railway tracks have been asked to vacate their premises claiming the structures are in the way of a few infrastructure works connected to the new railway station being developed between Thane and Mulund.“Many families have lived here for over five decades and have nowhere to go after the railways sent them evacuation notices. A hearing is scheduled next week. I have written to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar and also met municipal commissioner Saurabh Rao requesting that the Thane Municipal Corporation rehabilitate these families,” BJP corporator Sanjay Waghule said. The issue has been hanging for a long time after Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhask had instructed the railway administration last year to consider the status of the residents from a humanitarian perspective and refrain from taking any stern decision without discussing the issue with local leaders.
