Madurantakam: Leader of opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday alleged that chief minister C Joseph Vijay had not displayed any remorse for Karur tragedy even after a year.Campaigning for DMK candidate I Paranthamen in Madurantakam on Sunday, Udhayanidhi alleged that Vijay had ‘run away from the spot without any guilt or shame.’ He said Vijay eventually became the CM by ‘deceiving people’ and was now duping voters once again in the bypoll.“Without even providing drinking water, people were made to wait for 10 hours. Because of his delay, 41 people died on the day in Karur. CM was a person who ran away from the spot without even an iota of shame or guilt,’’ Udhayanidhi charged.He charged that even after becoming CM, Vijay was adopting undemocratic means while blaming other parties. “CM accuses DMK of giving money to voters. But he pays money and buys MLAs. Now he has gone to the next level by breaking a party into two and does a wholesale purchase of an entire faction,’’ Udhayanidhi alleged.Raising the issue of women’s safety, Udhayanidhi said police attempted to cover up the sexual assault of a schoolgirl in Vandalur as a case of snake bite. “There is no safety for women anywhere. Just two days ago, a schoolgirl was sexually assaulted in Vandalur. Since CM was heading for an election campaign, police refused to accept the complaint from the student’s parents and registered a false complaint claiming it was a snake bite,” Udhayanidhi said. He said a differently-abled girl was also gang-raped when she was alone at home.He then charged that Vijay never responds to questions in the assembly. “I had raised 16 questions about law and order, including drug menace and murders. But after three days when he responded, there was no answer to any of these questions,’’ he said.
