Varanasi: A policeman was killed and three others were seriously injured late Wednesday when a dumper truck went out of control and rammed into a police patrol jeep near Baniyapar on Gorakhpur-Mau Highway in the Ghosi Kotwali area of Mau district. Head constable Pawan Kumar Yadav (38), a resident of Karmajeetpur, Chitaipur, Varanasi, was declared dead at District Hospital, Mau.The injured, SI Vinod Kumar Singh (54), a resident of Machwal, Chandauli, head constable Pritam Kumar Yadav (40), a resident of Narhan, Jaunpur, and PRD jawan Om Prakash Yadav (45) of Ghosi were all taken to CHC Ghosi for primary treatment and later referred to District Hospital, Mau.According to SP Kamlesh Bahadur, the mobile patrol team was on duty when a dumper struck the vehicle from behind. The driver fled the scene after the collision. An FIR was registered against the unidentified vehicle driver. Police are investigating the matter on the basis of CCTV footage. DIG Police, Azamgarh Range, Sunil Kumar Singh, and Mau SP, Kamlesh Bahadur, along with other officers, paid tributes to late Pawan Kumar Yadav at the Reserve Police Lines, Mau.
