Ludhiana: A 27-year-old man was allegedly abducted by five men posing as police personnel from Bihari Colony near Tajpur Road, with the accused demanding Rs 50,000 for his release after claiming that “chitta” (heroin) had been recovered from him.On the complaint of the victim’s mother, Lalita, Division Number 7 police registered a case against Ranvir of Mundian Kalan, Parmjeet Singh of Chabewal, Karam Ali of Parmjeet Nagar, Mundian Khurd, Kulwinder Singh of Mundian Khurd and Raminderjeet Singh of Rishi Nagar.Lalita told police that the accused arrived in a Mahindra Bolero and a Swift car, introduced themselves as police officials and forcibly took her son, Dhiraj Sahni, in the Bolero. She alleged that they also thrashed him.The accused later called the family and demanded Rs 50,000, claiming that heroin had been recovered from Dhiraj. The family negotiated with them and the amount was allegedly settled at Rs 30,000.The family subsequently lodged a police complaint in the matter.Police registered a case under Sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 140(3) (kidnapping/abduction for wrongful confinement), 308(2) (extortion), 191(3) (rioting while armed with a deadly weapon) and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the BNS against the accused.Investigating officer ASI Randhir Singh said police had received information about the incident and rounded up the accused. The Bolero and Swift were also taken into possession.The accused were produced in court and remanded in three-day police custody.Police sources said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused allegedly had a prior enmity with the complainant. They added that further investigation was under way.
