Guwahati: Five people were arrested for allegedly vandalising a Sonapur dhaba after being denied alcohol, police said.Sonapur police arrested Narottam Pegu, Ranoj Doley, Jitu Doley, Arun Doley and Nilakantha Pegu on Monday in connection with Saturday’s incident.The incident occurred on singer Zubeen Garg’s first death anniversary, when a large number of people gathered at the singer’s memorial site. Police said the accused had visited Zubeen Kshetra before coming to the dhaba and allegedly created a ruckus at New City Dhaba while drunk.“Four of them are from Majuli, and one is from Lakhimpur. They arrived from Zubeen Kshetra and caused a huge ruckus at the Dhaba while drunk. We identified them from CCTV footage and arrested them from Guwahati based on the FIR filed by the owner,” a Sonapur police officer said.Police said the dhaba is around 300-400 metres from the memorial site and that further arrests could follow after verification.The owner stopped serving alcohol after 9 pm as a mark of respect on the occasion. The group allegedly created a commotion after being denied service. The owner claimed the incident caused heavy losses, with property damaged or destroyed.
