Jaipur: Four candidates are now in the fray for the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) mayoral election after all four nomination papers filed for the post were found valid during scrutiny on Monday.The candidates are BJP’s Sunil Kothari, Congress’s Sunita Mawar and independents Sunita Methi and Dashrath Atal.According to the election commission report, Methi, Atal, and Mawar had filed their nomination papers as Congress candidates. However, the Congress officially issued its election symbol to Mawar. Following this, Methi and Atal were treated as independent candidates during scrutiny.“The candidates have time until 3pm on Sept 22 to withdraw their nominations. If none of the candidates withdraw, the election commission will allot election symbols to those remaining in the contest,” an official said.

A source said there is a possibility that Methi and Atal may withdraw their nominations on Sept 22.Voting for the mayoral election will be held on Sept 25 at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation headquarters in Lal Kothi. Polling will begin at 10am and continue until 2pm.Counting of votes will start at the same venue immediately after polling ends. The result is expected to be declared around 3pm.
