Silchar: Two police personnel were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a businessman’s associate and robbing him of Rs 14 lakh in Sribhumi district, while a sub-inspector accused of masterminding the operation is absconding, police sources said.The incident occurred in Patharkandi on Wednesday when the man was carrying the cash to Dharmanagar in neighbouring Tripura for a financial transaction.According to his complaint, five people intercepted him at Patharkandi railway station while he was preparing to board a Silchar-Agartala train. They allegedly took him towards Chandkhira, snatched the cash and released him.A police investigation into the complaint allegedly revealed the involvement of personnel. Sources said Lance Naik Anwar Hussain and constable Sajal Shuklabaidya took the man away in a police 112 emergency response vehicle at the alleged insistence of sub-inspector M Nongthoiba Singh.Searches at the arrested personnel’s residences led to the recovery of Rs 1 lakh, sources said. Singh remains absconding, and police are searching for him.Investigators are probing whether the three acted alone and are trying to recover the remaining Rs 13 lakh. They are also examining how the official vehicle was used.
