Guwahati: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday assured the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) and its contractors of full security support to ensure that ongoing highway infrastructure works in the state are not not hindered, as the region’s working season approaches.The assurance was given at a security coordination meeting chaired by the CM at the cabinet hall of the chief minister’s secretariat in Imphal. The meeting reviewed the state’s law and order situation.“The meeting also discussed in length the new vulnerable areas and how to deploy security personnel in those areas, if needed, for the greater interest of the people,” the CM’s secretariat stated.The chief minister directed security agencies to provide adequate protection at project sites so that development work proceeds without disruption as NHIDCL authorities and contractors prepare to intensify construction activities over the next six months.“The chief minister stressed in the meeting that the govt will provide all necessary security support to speed up the work, if required. The security agencies have been instructed to see that the ongoing infrastructure development work are not hindered and adequate security are provided,” the CM’s secretariat added.The meeting also took stock of the broader law and order scenario in Manipur. Participants deliberated on stringent measures needed to maintain peace and order, and held detailed discussions on newly identified vulnerable areas, along with strategies for deploying additional security personnel to those locations if the situation demands it.The meeting was attended by home minister Govindas Konthoujam, security adviser Kuldiep Singh, chief secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, director general of police Mukesh Singh, commissioner of home N Ashok Kumar, inspector general of Assam Rifles (South) Major General Gaurav Sharma, inspector general of Assam Rifles (East) Major General Inderjit Singh Bhinder, inspector general of CRPF Homkar Amol Vinukant, and other senior officials representing various security agencies operating in the state.
