Silchar: A 16-year-old student was killed after being run over by a train in Hailakandi district on Thursday, the second such student death there in two days.Kaberi Khanam Barbhuiya, a Class X student of Monacherra Higher Secondary School, was returning home when the incident occurred near Gudamghat in Monachhara around 11 am.Kaberi, from Rourwarpar village under Lala police station, was staying at her maternal uncle’s house in Monachhara for her studies. Her father, Hilal Uddin Barbhuiya, works outside the state, sources said.Witnesses said Kaberi was walking along the railway track when the Sairang-Kolkata Express approached. Her dupatta allegedly got entangled with the moving train, pulling her under its wheels. She died on the spot.Police recovered the body and sent it to S K Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi for autopsy.The incident came a day after 19-year-old student Sahid Alam Mazumdar died while allegedly trying to get off a train at Hailakandi railway station. Sahid, from Aynakhal village in Monachhara, died on Wednesday.
