Itanagar: National Award-winning filmmaker Dominic Sangma was allegedly assaulted by two men near Jollang-Rakap road on Wednesday evening after he intervened when students were allegedly harassed, police said.The accused have been apprehended.Dominic, head of the screenwriting department at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) campus in Jote, was on an evening walk around 6.30 pm when he witnessed the incident.According to his wife, Dominic saw two allegedly intoxicated men armed with bamboo sticks intimidating FTII students. When he intervened, the men allegedly attacked him with fists and sticks.Following a complaint, police registered an FIR at Balijan police station under Sections 115(2), 117(2), 126 and 351 of the BNS, pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation.The FIR names two Rakap village residents, Techi Nanu and Techi Sanjay, as the accused. The complaint also states that an FTII security guard and four students were assaulted and wrongfully restrained.Police said a probe was underway and the two men have been apprehended.Dominic, who is from Meghalaya, is known for his Garo-language feature Rapture, which won the Best Garo Film award at the 66th National Film Awards.
