Kharagpur: CPM on Monday accused BJP supporters of attacking and setting fire to its party office during a rally at Chandrakona Road, and disrupting another programme at Madpur in Kharagpur Rural. BJP denied the allegations and blamed CPM members for the disturbance.Chandrakona Road and Beharasol area committees of CPM organised a procession and public meeting over removal of names from the SIR list, rising fuel costs, and demanding Annapurna Bhandar benefits for all.CPM alleged that several BJP supporters carrying party flags attacked its office soon after the rally began, vandalised it and burnt items taken from the premises. A large police contingent from Garbeta police station reached the spot.CPM district secretary Bijoy Pal, former district secretary and former minister Sushanta Ghosh, state neta Shatarup Ghosh and other district netas participated in the procession.Ghosh said setting fire to the party office would achieve nothing as CPM had completed its rally and would take necessary action. He also referred to Suvendu Adhikari and the Sarada and Narada cases while criticising the alleged attack.BJP Jhargram organisational district general secretary Gautam Kauri said CPM members had created the disturbance after their rally. He claimed cooking was under way inside the party office and the fire might have originated there. He denied BJP’s involvement and accused CPM of seeking to implicate the party.
