Ghaziabad: A 15-year-old girl died and her father suffered burns after a gas cylinder caught fire in their fourth-floor one-room home in Kaushambi’s Bhovapur village on Saturday evening.The girl, Aanchal, was allegedly trapped inside even as her parents and brother moved to the balcony. She suffered severe burns and died after being rushed to hospital. Her father, who tried to rescue her, sustained burns on his face and hand and remains under treatment.Police said the incident took place in Balak Ram Colony around 8.30 pm when the family was cooking dinner and the cylinder caught fire. Aanchal’s father Guddu, his wife and their son managed to reach the balcony, but Aanchal fell behind and got trapped in the room. Fire officials said she may have tried to save herself by wrapping a sheet around her body, but it caught fire and left her severely burnt.When Guddu realised his daughter was still inside, he entered the room to rescue her. Both were later rushed to Yashoda Hospital in Kaushambi, where Aanchal died during treatment, police said.A fire service team from Vaishali reached the spot soon after being alerted, but the lane leading to the house was too narrow for a fire tender to enter directly. Fire personnel walked in with buckets of water and primary firefighting equipment and brought the blaze under control before it could spread further. Fire officials said some household items kept near the cylinder were destroyed.Guddu and his family, who came to the NCR city from Sultanpur district, were living in the rented accommodation for some time. ACP (Indirapuram) Suryabali Maurya said the exact cause of the cylinder fire is being investigated.
