Varanasi: A special vaccination campaign to protect cattle from Lumpy Skin Disease was launched in the city on Sept. 9 and will continue till Oct. 8.As part of the drive, teams from the Animal Husbandry Department are visiting villages to vaccinate cattle. The state govt has made one lakh doses of the Lumpy Skin Disease vaccine available for the campaign.Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Alok Singh said no case of Lumpy Skin Disease has been confirmed in the district so far, but the department is fully alert to prevent any possible spread.He said a total of 39 teams, including six mobile veterinary vans, have been deployed to provide vaccination facilities in villages.“As per the prescribed protocol, cattle that are more than seven months pregnant and calves below four months of age will not be vaccinated,” Singh said.A control room has also been set up for information and assistance related to Lumpy Skin Disease.
