Agartala: The South Tripura district court on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a 43-year-old man in the Baikhora area last year.South Tripura district and sessions judge Gobinda Das also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict, Chandra Kumar Tripura (30).The incident took place on the night of Feb 23, 2025, at Sathbhuiya Bari in Jolaibari. The victim, Manoranjan Tripura, was sitting with several others outside a shop owned by Molin Das Tripura and smoking a hookah when Chandra Kumar allegedly attacked him with a sharp machete.The accused, without any clear reason, assaulted Manoranjan multiple times on his face, head, and other parts of his body, causing fatal injuries, the prosecution said.On hearing the commotion, the wife and daughter of the victim rushed to the spot and saw the accused attacking Manoranjan with the dao, the public prosecutor said. The accused fled after they raised an alarm. A murder case was later registered at Baikhora police station.During the trial, the court heard testimonies from 17 witnesses, including the investigating officer, medical experts and forensic specialists. After considering the testimonies, forensic evidence, and other documentary material, the court held Chandra Kumar guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
