Status: Not ApprovedHEAD: 24_Ahm_PS_Car film festByline: NoneChrome and celluloid: Film fest at Dastan aims to connect cars and cinemaAhmedabad: If the James Bond movie Goldfinger made the Aston Martin DB5 one of the most iconic cars on screen, Indian cinema also immortalised several cars, from the Ford Mustang convertible in Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Don to the Chevrolet Impala convertible in Rajesh Khanna-starrer Haathi Mere Saathi.Songs such as Mere Sapno Ki Rani and Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Main Aaya would not be complete without the Jeep, as Bollywood’s romance with cars continued from the vintage tourer in Shammi Kapoor-starrer Brahmachari to the Buick Super convertible recently seen in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.“What would be a better medium to connect the masses to the world of vintage and classic cars than cinema?” said Brijesh Chinai, custodian of the Dastan Autoworld – Pranlal Bhogilal Collection. As the unique car museum completed 25 years, the premises will host the Car and Cinema Festival, termed the first of its kind in the country.The event will feature movies on the theme of cars from India and abroad, such as Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958) and The Italian Job (1969). Chinai said they will consider making it a recurring event.Gautam Sen, consultant to the Dastan Autoworld, said the museum, with over 100 cars, is home to some of the most renowned cars in the world, several of which are unique to India. “Each car has history attached to it—several were acquired from the former princely states, and getting to know about these cars is a deep dive into history,” he said.The event will take place from February 27 to March 1.BOXMemorable MachinesFord Model A (1929)The instantly recognised car from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi was a popular vintage car in India.
