Canacona: A 33-year-old man was electrocuted in a paddy field near his home at Satorlim in Gaondongrim on Monday. Police said Yeshwant Gaonkar was found unconscious near a well, about 500m from his house. A resident, Vasu Gaonkar, alerted police about the incident.Yeshwant’s brother, Umesh, and other family members told police that Yeshwant had gone to the well to check an electric motor pump. When he did not return, they searched for him and found him lying prone near the well.Police examined the area, conducted an inquest panchnama, and suspected that Yeshwant had suffered an electric shock from one of the electricity poles erected in the field. A 108 ambulance took him to the community health centre, Canacona, where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.A postmortem examination at South Goa District Hospital confirmed electrocution as the cause of death. His body was handed over to the family for final rites.Police registered an unnatural death case. PSI Ajit Velip is investigating under the supervision of Canacona police inspector Pravin Gawas.
