Silchar: Assam Rifles and Sribhumi police seized 14,000 suspected yaba tablets valued at Rs 2.5 crore and arrested five people at Badarpur on Thursday.Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team intercepted two cars allegedly being used to transport the contraband at Badarpur in Sribhumi district.The tablets weighed around 1.4 kg. Five mobile phones were also recovered.The identities of those arrested were not disclosed. The accused, along with the contraband, vehicles and mobile phones, were handed over to Sribhumi police for further investigation and legal action.Police are probing the consignment’s source and intended destination and whether the accused are part of a larger inter-state drug trafficking network.The seizure comes amid intensified action against narcotics trafficking in the Barak Valley, which shares borders with Mizoram and Tripura.
