Ludhiana: The Ludhiana municipal corporation on Sunday launched the second phase of ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, initiating a citywide cleanliness drive starting outside Nehru Sidhant Kendra on Pakhowal Road and expanding into adjoining areas.Mayor Inderjit Kaur and municipal commissioner Ojasvi Alankar inaugurated the campaign and directed civic branches to coordinate sanitation efforts across all sectors, warning that official negligence will not be tolerated.Civic officials announced that surprise inspections will be conducted in the coming days to monitor progress. The administration also appealed to local residents to stop littering and support the initiative to keep the city clean and green.“Cleanliness remains a key priority and the civic body will work to improve sanitation in all areas,” said mayor Kaur.The drive comes after the first phase of the campaign faced disruptions due to a sanitation workers’ strike that temporarily halted garbage collection. While major dumping points have since been cleared, vacant plots across the city continue to accumulate illegal waste heaps.Local residents expressed concern over citizens avoiding payments for door-to-door garbage collection, urging the municipal body to identify and penalise individuals dumping waste illegally in vacant plots.
