Gurgaon: Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under special intensive revision (SIR) of Haryana’s electoral rolls to Sept 30, giving eligible citizens more time to seek inclusion or correction in the voter list.Under the revised schedule, disposal of claims and objections will continue till Oct 28, and the final electoral roll will now be published on Nov 6, according to district election officer and Gurgaon deputy commissioner Uttam Singh.Singh said ECI revised the schedule keeping voters’ interests in mind, and that the district administration was working to ensure every eligible citizen is included in the roll with accurate, error-free details.Citizens have been advised to check their names and details in the voter list without waiting for the deadline, and to file claims or objections wherever discrepancies are found. Those whose names are missing can apply for inclusion through Form 6, along with the required documents and declaration.Voters can approach their booth level officers (BLOs), electoral registration officers (EROs) or assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) for assistance, or use ECI’s ECI-ENet platform, including its ‘Book a Call’ facility. The voter helpline number 1950 is also available for queries related to the electoral roll and the SIR exercise.Singh had earlier said an accurate and updated electoral roll was essential for ensuring that every eligible citizen could participate in the democratic process. He appealed to residents to actively participate in the SIR exercise rather than wait for the revision process to conclude.“Awareness and cooperation of citizens are equally important for preparing an error-free and updated voter list,” he said.He also directed AEROs, EROs, supervisors and BLOs to work in coordination and accelerate the SIR Phase 2 exercise. Officials have been asked to complete all necessary procedures within the prescribed timelines.
