New Delhi: Public Works Department (PWD) is set to undertake patch repairs on damaged stretches of Ring Road and NH-8 to address potholes, worn-out surfaces and localised road damage on two of Delhi’s busiest corridors.The work will involve removing distressed portions of the existing carriageway and replacing them with fresh bituminous concrete. Instead of resurfacing the entire road, PWD will focus on sections that have deteriorated because of heavy traffic, weathering, water seepage and regular wear and tear.Under the proposed plan, the damaged asphalt will be removed through cold milling before a fresh 40-50 mm layer of bituminous concrete is laid and compacted. The department will use mechanical milling to remove the affected surface instead of overlaying fresh asphalt on damaged sections.The repairs assume significance as both Ring Road and NH-8 carry heavy traffic throughout the day. While Ring Road is one of the capital’s key arterial corridors, NH-8 serves as a major link between Delhi, Gurgaon and the airport.Officials said the exercise is part of the department’s annual maintenance programme aimed at addressing road deterioration before it develops into a larger problem.
