Mumbai: Slum Rehabilitation Authority on Friday informed Bombay HC that it has allotted permanent alternative accommodation (PAA) to five eligible persons in two projects in Sion-Koliwada and will give them possession of their flats on Aug 31.This followed after HC on Aug 25 directed that a contempt notice be issued to SRA CEO Mahendra Kalyankar and two other officers. Justices Girish Kulkarni and Neela Gokhale were informed by senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond, for SRA, that allotment letters were issued on Thursday. “In our opinion, this would put an end to the grievances of the petitioners,” the judges noted in the order.HC adjourned the hearing to Sept 2 and sought replies to the contempt notice.On Dec 23, HC had disposed of petitions on issues including delayed possession of PAA and directed the petitioners to approach the special cells constituted by SRA to decide their grievances. Since the cell (city) was non-functional, five persons in two petitions moved HC on March 9. At four subsequent hearings, HC was assured their complaints were being heard. On Aug 25, it was told the cell was yet to hear them. Aghast, HC directed contempt notices and Rs 50,000 costs in both petitions. On Friday, it clarified to advocate Shakil Ahmed that SRA will pay each petitioner Rs 50,000.
