Ahmedabad: As the city reshapes itself to host 2030 Commonwealth Games, AMC is planning an infrastructural leap by building the Koteshwar-Hansol river bridge to connect the airport and Narendra Modi Stadium directly.As Ahmedabad is also vying to host 2036 Olympic Games, AMC is focused on ensuring that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, being developed around the primary venue, Narendra Modi Stadium, is well connected.For the river bridge project, the civic body has already approved two 30-metre-wide roads leading to Sabarmati river under the Town Planning (TP) schemes of Koteshwar and Hansol.An AMC source stated: “Ahead of Commonwealth Games, comprehensive planning focuses on widening approach roads and opening new road networks leading to the Narendra Modi Stadium.”The source said a foot overbridge behind Narendra Modi Stadium has been planned.Besides, the construction of a barrage-cum-bridge is progressing near the Sabarmati Acher Crematorium.“As for the river bridge, roadway alignments have been planned,” the source said. “The bridge will connect to a new tunnel passing beneath the firing range near Taj Hotel.”Another source said: “The Olympic Cell of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has planned the development of Sardar Patel Sports Enclave across land parcels surrounding Narendra Modi Stadium.”In its 2023–24 budget, the source said, AMC approved the construction of a split flyover at the Visat Junction along the BRTS corridor connecting Sabarmati and Chandkheda.“The design for this flyover was finalised in 2024. The flyover project is being fast-tracked,” the source said. “Additionally, a feasibility report is being drafted for a railway overbridge linking Ranip Bakramandi to Sabarmati Jawahar Chowk, which will serve as a crucial route from Ranip to Narendra Modi Stadium.”AMC has allocated Rs 1,000 crore for two elevated corridors: a 3km stretch from Nehrunagar Circle via Shivranjani Crossroads and Ramdevnagar Junction to Iscon Bridge; and a 3.5km stretch from Bopal Vakil Saheb Bridge to Ghuma village.A double-level flyover-cum-railway overbridge has been proposed at Sanand Junction on SG Highway, alongside planned railway overbridges at Geratpur railway station crossing, Maninagar railway crossing, Punit Nagar railway crossing, and Vatva–Vinzol railway crossing.[Box]SVPI is take-off point for master planAhmedabad: To enhance access to Narendra Modi Stadium from Ahmedabad’s western localities and ease traffic congestion, new flyover bridges and road-widening initiatives are being rolled out.The route from Sabarmati Toll Naka to Narendra Modi Stadium will be widened to 61 metres.Demolition work is currently underway, and this corridor is slated to open after the monsoon.Moreover, additional river bridges are planned to facilitate smooth transit to the airport for commuters travelling from Chandkheda, Sabarmati, Ranip, Vadaj, Ghatlodia, and Naranpura.A new riverfront corridor has been planned to run parallel to Sabarmati Riverfront from Dafnala to Taj Hotel.
