Pune: Two women constables from Pimpri Chinchwad police, who have been in a relationship for three years, and planned to wed on Aug 30 in a ceremony in Alandi near Pune, called it off on Monday after the intense attention their decision drew.Two days ago, both the women in their 20s attached the same wedding invite when they applied for leave. A senior police officer from Pimpri Chinchwad police said, “We cannot comment on their decision as it is their personal matter. We came to know about the wedding from the invitiation.”One is from North Maharashtra and the other is from a village on the outskirts of Pune district. They came to Pimpri Chinchwad three years ago and met when they appeared for the police recruitment examination. They cleared it and after training were sent to the same police station and have since been living together.Other police personnel said the family of the woman from the outskirts of Pune district, who opposed the relationship, visited the police station when they got to know about the planned ‘wedding’, two days ago.They also approached senior police officers in the commissionerate to convey their concerns and demanded that the authorities stop the wedding, but were told that the police could not intervene in such a matter.
