Amritsar: Jailed MP Amritpal Singh-led Akali Dal Waris Punjab De has announced Papalpreet Singh as the party candidate from the Majitha assembly constituency for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.Papalpreet is currently lodged in Goindwal jail.Shamsher Singh Padhri, the party’s chief spokesperson, informed on Saturday that the Akali Dal Waris Punjab De had decided to nominate Papalpreet Singh from the Majitha constituency.Papalpreet, along with Amritpal Singh, was earlier lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act. He was brought back to Punjab after the state govt reportedly decided not to extend his detention under the NSA.The party had earlier announced the candidature of Satwant Singh, son of Kehar Singh, who was convicted and executed for his role in the conspiracy to assassinate former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.Later, the Akali Dal Waris Punjab De nominated Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala and Daljit Singh Kalsi from the Moga and Ajnala assembly constituencies, respectively.Both Gurmeet Bukkanwala and Daljit Kalsi are currently in jail.Other candidates announced by the party include Darshan Singh Shivalik from Gill, Jagjit Singh Baba Jagga from Kapurthala and Rachpal Singh Shoshan from Kotkapura.
