Lucknow: A midnight bid to steal cash from an India One ATM at Maurawan Mod in Mohanlalganj area failed after suspects allegedly damaged the machine, uprooted its upper portion and fled with several components, police said on Thursday.According to investigators, the incident occurred around 12.30 am on the intervening night of August 20 and 21. A group of men arrived in a white Maruti Baleno and attempted to break open the ATM to access the cash stored inside. When they could not reach the money, they allegedly dismantled parts of the machine and carried them away, including the upper section, screen panel, card reader, the brand logo and other items.The case came to light after Rahul Gupta, an India One ATM franchise partner and a resident of Mawaiya under Alambagh police station limits, submitted a written complaint to Mohanlalganj police.An FIR (No. 314/2026) was registered under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said teams began examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the ATM and in adjoining localities to identify the suspects and their vehicle.During the probe, police traced the car allegedly used in the attempt and detained Abhishek Jaiswal (20), son of Vishnu Jaiswal, a resident of Lalganj in Rae Bareli district. Baleno (UP 33 CL 8621) was also seized.A second accused, Vishal Singh alias Pandey (26), is absconding. Police said searches are underway and they are probing whether the suspects conducted a prior recce or were linked to similar incidents elsewhere.
