Statewide sanitation strike hits Panchkula hard
As part of the agitation, protesting workers staged a demonstration outside the Panchkula municipal corporation (MC) office and surrounded the building. Police erected barricades at the entrance gate to prevent demonstrators from entering the premises.

Panchkula: Cleanliness across Panchkula has deteriorated significantly as an ongoing statewide strike by sanitation workers crossed its first week, leaving roadsides, open spaces, and garbage collection points littered with unlifted waste.While door-to-door waste collectors remain operational, street sweeping and public waste management have halted completely, prompting growing complaints from residents over insanitary conditions. Police erected barricades at the entrance gate to prevent demonstrators from entering the premises.A union delegation later held talks with mayor Sham Lal Bansal and municipal commissioner Vinay Kumar, but the meeting ended without a resolution.Protesters raised slogans against the state govt, alleging that an official agreement reached with employees on May 13 has still not been implemented despite repeated representations.The workers warned that they will intensify their strike until their demands—including the regularisation of staff—are fulfilled and the May 13 agreement is fully executed.
