Mohali: In a shocking incident, the body of a newborn baby was found in a dustbin at a residential society in Zirakpur on Monday, triggering concern among residents.A garbage collector spotted the body and immediately alerted the police. On receiving information, a team from Zirakpur police reached the spot, took the body into custody and launched an investigation.The body was sent to the Government Hospital in Dera Bassi and has been kept there for legal proceedings. The identity of the newborn and the exact cause of death are yet to be established.Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to determine when the baby was abandoned and identify the person responsible. Investigators are also questioning residents and gathering information about visitors and any suspicious activity in the vicinity.Police officials said CCTV footage and other evidence were being analysed and that a clearer picture would emerge as the investigation progresses. The cause of death is expected to be determined after the postmortem examination.
