New Delhi: Delhi Police has written to assembly speaker Vijender Gupta, informing him about the detention of Kondli MLA Kuldeep Singh and detailing the circumstances that led to the preventive action. Singh’s mobilisation of sanitation workers in connection with a recent murder case could escalate tensions in the area, disrupt public order and potentially lead to a law-and-order situation, police said.In the letter, DCP (east) Rajeev Kumar wrote Singh, alias Monu, was detained under Section 65 of Delhi Police Act for mobilising local public and provoking them in connection with the murder case registered at Kalyanpuri police station on Aug 16. The MLA’s actions had the potential to cause a serious breach of peace, the officer said.Although the accused was arrested within 36 hours of the incident, the AAP MLA allegedly urged sanitation workers to stop work and gather in large numbers. He was also encouraging the deceased’s family members not to allow postmortem and to refrain from completing other legal formalities, the letter claimed. Police also received information about a possible plan to block NH-24, which could further escalate the situation, it added.“Considering the above circumstances and their potential impact on public order”, the MLA was detained Tuesday at 5.15am from his residence by personnel from Madhu Vihar police station to prevent any untoward incident in the area, police clarified.Singh was released at 3.28pm after undergoing a medical examination at Dr Hedgewar Hospital in east Delhi.
