3 OIL-backed startup designed EVs set to navigate tough Duliajan oilfield terrain
Hopun has developed 13 electric vehicles for industrial and field operations

Dibrugarh: Three homegrown electric vehicles are set to tackle Assam’s tough oilfield terrain after their launch at OIL’s Duliajan headquarters.The vehicles, designed and developed by Hopun Innovations Private Limited, were inaugurated during IIT Kharagpur’s platinum jubilee celebrations on Aug 16. Hopun is a startup nurtured by Oil India Limited (OIL) and incubated at IIT Bhubaneswar.Sandeep Maheshwari, CEO of the MC² Foundation, launched the vehicles virtually in the presence of IIT-Kharagpur professor Manoj Kumar Mondal. Simultaneously, OIL resident chief executive Binayananda Bharali flagged them off at the company’s Duliajan headquarters.OIL also participated in the celebrations, which featured the MC² Foundation’s launch of the Energy Innovation Hackathon to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the energy sector.Hopun has developed 13 electric vehicles for industrial and field operations. Three have been deployed in Duliajan for field trials and demonstrations. Designed to withstand challenging oilfield conditions, they also support OIL’s sustainability goals.OIL said its partnerships with startups and academic institutions were aimed at advancing technology-driven indigenous solutions aligned with India’s changing energy landscape and its vision of a cleaner, self-reliant energy future.
