Noida: Independence Day celebrations in schools across Noida and Ghaziabad went beyond flag-hoisting and patriotic performances this year, with educators using the occasion to provide a lesson on civic sense, empathy and responsibility among students. Schools said the day offered an opportunity to help children understand that love for the country also involves respecting others, caring for public spaces and becoming responsible citizens.“Independence Day is a reminder that freedom comes with responsibility. For our students, the occasion is an opportunity to understand that contributing to the country does not always require extraordinary acts; being compassionate, respecting others, following civic responsibilities and caring for our surroundings are equally important,” said Mukesh Sharma, principal of Prometheus School in Noida.Ritu Srivastava, principal of Sri Chaitanya Techno School in Noida, said values needed to form the foundation of responsible citizenship. “Loving your country is not limited to respecting its flag or national symbols; it also means caring for public spaces and understanding that public property belongs to all of us. Through such occasions, we want students to develop civic sense and realise that being a responsible citizen is the first step towards contributing meaningfully to the nation,” she said.Several schools organised special assemblies where students spoke about the freedom movement, contributions of freedom fighters and the significance of Independence Day. Students also took part in dance, music and theatrical performances based on patriotism and India’s journey since Independence.
Government school students, NCC cadets and members of Scouts and Guides perform at the Collectorate in Ghaziabad during Independence Day celebrations
In Ghaziabad, students of Sushila Balika Inter College presented the National Song, Vande Mataram, during the Independence Day celebrations at the collectorate, while students of KDB School presented patriotic songs and Guru Nanak School students performed with a band. Children from Neev Shakti Sanstha, including hearing- and speech-impaired and differently-abled children, also showcased a patriotic performance.Students from several schools, along with NCC cadets and members of Scouts and Guides, participated in the district-level celebrations. Students who won competitions organised as part of the Independence Day celebrations were also felicitated with certificates and awards.
